U's Launch their Community Ambassadors for the 2023/24 Season

Colchester United players committed to support the club’s Community Foundation

Last week, Colchester United and the Colchester United Community Foundation celebrated alongside clubs up and down the country the EFL Week of Action. This week highlighted the width and depth of impact football club’s and their Foundations have daily on the people in their local communities, through a range of diverse and targeted community programmes.

Following the EFL Week of Action, Colchester United and the Colchester United Community Foundation can announce their PFA Community Ambassadors for the 2023/24 season. The Colchester United players and management are committed to supporting the impactful work Community Foundation to each day across North Essex.

Connor Hall volunteered to be CUCF Community Ambassador as Club Captain and shared; “It’s a great privilege to be CUCF Community Ambassador, especially as club captain. I feel I have a responsibility within the team to set an example to others and this is a great way of showing it. Also, it shows that the Community Foundation and Colchester United have a strong connection within the club and the community.”

The Professional Footballer’s Association (PFA) kindly support clubs and players all over the country to engage with their local communities, and through the Community Ambassadors programme this allows players at Colchester United the opportunity to do just this. All Colchester United first team, U21’s and U18’s will have the opportunity throughout the season to support the club in positively impacting participants on programmes and members of the local community in Colchester and North Essex.

Three Colchester United first team players will champion the areas of the work in which the Community Foundation operates within:

 

  • CUCF Education Ambassador – Will Greenidge

 

Will shared what this means to him; “It’s a real pleasure to be named the Education Ambassador for this season, the players have a great relationship with the community, and I can’t wait to play a part in that relationship this season.”

 

  • CUCF Health & Inclusion Ambassador – John Akinde

 

John commented on his new role; “I’m very excited to be the Health & Inclusion Ambassador. I’m looking forward to promoting well-being for all and encouraging an inclusive environment where everyone can feel comfortable and welcomed.”

 

  • CUCF Participation Ambassador – Fiacre Kelleher

 

Fiacre also shared his rection; “I’m delighted to be the Participation Ambassador as I feel it is important to me to get involved within the Community that I live in and give back to the people who come and support us each week.”

 

Rick Goldsbrough, COO at the Colchester United Community Foundation, detailed “It’s great once again to announce the Colchester United Community Ambassadors, and have the support of the players and management for another season. The impact visits and engagement of players has is powerful and we’re so pleased to have them working alongside Community Foundation staff in working to enrich people’s lives within our programmes and the wider local communities.”
