Colchester United Community Foundations (CUCF) walking football ‘A’ team were crowned champions of the North Essex walking football league for the first time.
CUCF run weekly walking football sessions at the JobServe Community Stadium between 5pm-6pm on Thursday evenings. A number of players who attend this session play for the CUCF walking football team, who regularly play matches at the weekends.
The CUCF ‘A’ team played 18 games and won more games (12 wins) and scored more goals (23) than any other team in the league, halting the dominance of Clacton who had won the league the previous two seasons. The CUCF ‘B’ team also take part in the same division. Huge congratulations to both teams for their great work over the past season.
The group is made up of over 30 players, of which not all play the competitive matches and prefer the social side of the training sessions. The sessions are fully inclusive and we are always looking for new players. Anyone over 50 is welcome to come along and join in whether you’ve played football before or not.
Health and Inclusion Manager for CUCF Ed King said “A massive well done to the ‘A’ team for being crowned champions. A large majority of the players who represent the CUCF waking football team on the weekends train with us on a Thursday night at the JobServe Community Stadium. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about whether or not to give walking football a go, to do it. It is brilliant exercise and most importantly a great way to meet likeminded people and form new friendships”.
The group also hold their own training session on a Monday night, which is not ran by CUCF, it is run by the players themselves. This takes place at Stanway School between 5.30pm-7.30pm. However, this session is not affiliated with CUCF. So, you will not get access to any of the events ran by CUCF if you attend this session only.
