Young star gets deadline day move to the Championship

1 September 2023

Junior Tchamadeu has left Colchester United to sign for Stoke City.

After a summer of speculation about the U's youngster, Championship side Stoke City have made a deadline day move for him, with an undisclosed fee securing his services at the Bet365 Stadium for the next four years.

Back in the 2020/21 season, Junior became the youngest ever starter for the U's, starring in the 2-1 win against Grimsby Town at the age of 16 years and 349 days.

Despite still being only nineteen, Junior has amassed ninety five appearances for the U's, including forty six in what was a successful season for him in 2022/23.

Accolades aplenty came his way this summer, including a host of Player of the Year awards at the U's and a place in both the EFL and PFA League Two teams of the year.

He was also the EFL Young Player of the Season for League Two, so it was no surprise to see him linked to clubs higher up the football pyramid.

With agreement between the two clubs, Junior Tchamadeu travelled up to Staffordshire on Friday afternoon, and put pen to paper on his new contract late on Friday night.

Good luck from everyone at Colchester United for your future Junior.
