Preview | Mansfield Town (H)

U's host Stags in League Two this weekend

14 September 2023

Colchester United will be aiming to make it consecutive home wins for the first time this season when they host Mansfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Ben Garner’s side picked up a first three points at the JobServe Community Stadium with a commanding performance against Tranmere last Saturday – with Joe Taylor and Bradley Ihionvien both on target.

Taylor’s fifth and Ihionvien’s second strike of the season were just a couple of chances that the U’s put away in a confidence-building performance for Colchester. And they will need to be at their best to take maximum points from high-flying Mansfield Town this weekend who are as-yet unbeaten in Sky Bet League Two.

Arthur Read left the pitch with an injury against Tranmere last weekend, but Head Coach Ben Garner confirmed he would be available for this weekend's match.

The Opposition
Nigel Clough
’s side have picked up thirteen points from seven games helping the Stags to third in the standings early in on the season. With three wins and four draws, Mansfield join Swindon Town as the only two fourth division sides yet to lose a game so far.

And speaking ahead of this weekend’s game in North Essex, Clough said his side have the fighting spirit to stay at the top. “We’ve got an element of resilience about us, we’ve been behind in some games to come back and get draws or wins. That’s a good sign, but it will be tested against Colchester as much as any game so far.”

In the Stags’ game last weekend, Davis Keillor-Dunn (pictured below) added to his tally to take him to six for the season – the former Oldham and Wrexham man is third in the standings for the league, with two assists to his name as well.

George Maris also added to his goals for the season last weekend, converting a neat move in the win against Accrington Stanley. The midfielder has three goals for the campaign now, while his midfield partner Stephen Quinn is joint top in terms of assists in the fourth division with four in five league games.

Last Time We Met

The U’s met Mansfield just a matter of months ago with the Stags visiting North Essex in the final game of the 2022/23 season. Nigel Clough’s won comfortably, but missed out on the play-offs by a single goal.
