Head Coach praise for weekend opposition

22 September 2023

Ben Garner is expecting a good game on Saturday at Crewe Alexandra.

The U's head to Cheshire this weekend, facing a side that currently sit in seventh place in the League Two table.

Speaking ahead of the trip to the Mornflake Stadium, Ben Garner praised the Railwaymen's endeavours during the early stages of the 2023/4 season.

He said: "Crewe have had a really good start to the season and we know that they’ve got a talented squad."

"They’ve been quite varied in how they’ve played in terms of formations and have got different ways of doing it.

"It’ll be a good game for sure, but we’ve prepped well and we want to build on the positive performances we’ve had in the last two league games and try and go there and win the three points."

The U's have taken four points from their last two matches, but did suffer a heavy defeat in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Although disappointed overall, Garner did see positives aruond the fitness of a couple of players who got much needed minutes.

He added: "Sixty minutes for Jay Mingi and sixty for Hopps were the positives, it brings them closer to fitness and more available for selection which is what we want."

"They both did really well on the night, getting those minutes in, and we’re really pleased with that and it builds them into our squad for Saturday now."
