U21s Match Preview | Watford (A)

U's looking to bounce back from four consecutive defeats

25 September 2023

Colchester United U21 will take on Watford U21 in their Professional Development League clash on Tuesday afternoon.

The youngsters will be looking to bounce back from four consecutive defeats when they play the Hornets at Bell Lane on Tuesday 26th September at 1pm.

Last time out, the U's succumbed to a narrow 3-2 away defeat to Leeds United U21 in their Premier League Cup clash. Before that, Matty Etherington's side were beaten by Wigan Athletic U21 by three goals to nil, Burnley U21 by four goals to one, and Crewe Alexandra U21 by four goals to nil.

The U’s currently sit in eighth place in the Professional Development League. They have so far amassed six points from five games, scoring seven times and conceding thirteen.

Watford sit four places above the U’s, currently occupying the fourth position, having amassed one more point than Colchester.

Out of their five games, the Hornets have won two, drawn one and lost one. Watford youngsters are currently on a good run of form having won their last two clashes, beating Peterborough U21 4-3 at home, and overcoming Crewe U21 away by one goal to nil.

A Colchester win would put Matty Etherington’s side above the Hornets in the table.
