Colchester United Community Foundation are delighted to announce that as of January 2025 we will be delivering two more weekly Senior U’s sessions in Clacton and Harwich on a Tuesday. This has been made possible thanks to Age Well Funding from the NHS. Senior U’s is already loved by our members at Shrub End Community & Sports Centre and Blackwater Leisure Centre in Maldon, and we are excited to be able to offer more of the North Essex community the opportunity to take part.

Senior U’s is a FREE health and wellbeing programme designed to give adults (60+) in North Essex the chance to enjoy some social interaction and low impact physical activities, in an inclusive environment. The new sessions in Tendring will run every Tuesday, providing a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, socialise and engage in low impact physical activity. We are proud to say, that both our Clacton and Maldon Senior U’s sessions are Dementia friendly, with educational and awareness workshops being delivered to help support its participants. Carers are also welcome to attend the sessions.

Time: 10:00am-12:00pm.
Venue: Long Meadows Community Centre.

CUCF’s Health and Wellbeing Officer and Senior U’s programme lead, Louis Garbett, said “We are absolutely delighted to have received new funding, which has made it possible to expand Senior U’s to two fantastic new venues in Harwich and Clacton. This support allows us to reach even more people over 60, offering them a chance to connect, stay active, and enjoy a real sense of community. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how much these sessions mean to our participants, and we can’t wait to welcome new faces to our growing Senior U family."

Want to know if our Senior U’s programme is right for you?

The weekly sessions offer a friendly, welcoming environment where participants can stay active, meet new people, and enjoy a variety of engaging activities.

Each session is structured to include both social time and a range of low-impact physical activities tailored to different abilities. Participants can enjoy popular sports like Walking Football and Walking Cricket, perfect for those who want to stay active without the intensity of traditional sports. Other fun options include Badminton, Table Tennis, Indoor Curling, and a rotation of additional games to keep things fresh and enjoyable.

Below are some words from our participants at our Maldon venue:

"My partner and I love being part of Senior U’s, not just for the varied (and not too strenuous!) fun activities organised for us on a Friday morning in Maldon, but, importantly, for the good friends we have made. We hope to see more people join us as they are missing out!”
