DIFFICULT DAY FOR U21S AT BOLTON

Colchester United’s U21s have been beaten by Bolton Wanderers.

It was a difficult afternoon for the U’s youngsters, going down 7-0 to the Championship side up in the North West.

After their 4-0 win in their first PDL2 away match, the second trip to Lancashire wasn’t as straightforward

It was the very first meeting between the sides since August 2018, and only the fifth game in total, with the U’s winning one, drawing one and losing twice in the previous encounters

Wanderers included several overage players and were by far the more experienced side. The hosts scored twice in the first half, through Ryan Hardie, a recent signing from Wrexham, and Max Lott.

The U’s had their chances through Adrian Akande and Alex Faux but the host ran away with things after the break. Five goals were added in that second period, including a brace for sub Daeshon Lawrence.
