Linda Gaine, Health and Inclusion Link Trustee for Colchester United Community Foundation (CUCF), has been awarded a British Empire Medal in King Charles’ Birthday Honours.
Recognised for her outstanding service to grassroots netball across East Anglia, Linda has co run the Kats Netball Club in Colchester since 2005, helping to create opportunities for girls and women to take part in the sport and develop their confidence both on and off the court.
On receiving the award, Linda said, “I think it’s a shock. You never expect any recognition like this. As a volunteer you just go and do. Having the passion is important, and that’s what I feel for it.
“You don’t do it for the recognition, you do it because you want to and you feel strongly about it. Being named in the King’s Birthday Honours List hasn’t quite sunk in yet, but I’m over the moon. It’s lovely to be recognised, and it raises the profile of the sport.”
Linda has also played an important role at CUCF as a trustee since 2018, helping to shape inclusive opportunities that make a meaningful difference to young people and communities across Colchester and North East Essex.
