Bio

Arthur Read was one of eight signings that arrived at Colchester United in January 2023, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal from League One side Stevenage.

Read progressed through the youth academy at Luton Town, making appearances from under 9s to under 18s, before making the switch to Brentford in 2019.

Playing for the B team, in his first season, he was loaned out to Stevenage in his second, making thirty-eight appearances, scoring two goals – earning a two-year contract with the League Two side.

Arthur made twenty-five outings for the club in his first season, but found opportunities limited in the second year as Steve Evans side gained promotion, making the switch to Colchester United in January 2023 and becoming a regular for the team.

Starring in his first full season with the U’s, Read picked up the Official Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards with forty-six appearances and five goals in 2023/24.

Read scored a couple of goals for the club in the 25/26 season, including in two separate matches, two penalties against Gillingham in the EFL Trophy match on 7th October 2025 and League Two away match on 29th December 2025 respectively. His most recent goal was the first goal of the match against Barnet at home on 21st February 2026.

“Penalties in training and games are so different…it’s a lot different to doing it at training in front of 10 people— the pressure was on, but yeah, I dealt with it well.”
