Bio

The experienced goalkeeper is an imposing presence between the sticks, standing at 6ft 7 (2.01m), and was the first summer signing of 2024 making the switch from League One Champions Portsmouth.

Macey’s first club was Bristol Rovers, in his youth career, before joining Premier League side Arsenal in 2014. The goalkeeper had three loan spells away from the Emirates, with Accrington Stanley, Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle before his first Gunners outing in 2017.

He collected an FA Cup Winners’ medal in 2020 with Arsenal, named amongst the subs in the Wembley win, before leaving the Gunners a year later to join Hibs.

Nearly fifty appearances in a year-and-a-half followed, including an outing in the Scottish Cup Final, before returning to England to join Luton Town to help them gain promotion to the Premier League.

A loan spell to Portsmouth followed, before joining the South-Coast club on a permanent basis to help them win League One in 2023/24, then joining the U’s in the summer on a two-year deal.

“I think as a goalkeeper, if you drop your standards, you get found out quite aggressively because it ends up in a goal. So, I think naturally, goalkeepers tend to have pretty high standards on a daily basis.”
