Bio
Paul Digby began his career in the youth team at Barnsley. His performance at the club’s under-13 side led him to win the Most Promising Academy Player award in 2008, and again in 2011 after his good performances for the U16’s.
In the summer of 2013, Digby officially signed a scholarship with Barnsley for two years and was brought into action with the first team squad on 27th September 2011 in a 1-1 draw with Derby County in the Football League Championship. His debut at the game came when he was substituted in the 33rd minute and made him the fourth youngest player ever for the club. His full debut came at home against Birmingham on 21st February 2012 and, despite a 3-1 loss, Digby locked in a man-of-the-match performance as a midfielder.
For the 2012/13 season, Digby signed a new contract with Barnsley. Unfortunately, he suffered a hip problem which led him to miss out most of the season. He signed for another contract expansion with the club and stayed until 2017. During the 2013/14 season, he made his first start in a 1-0 loss against Blackpool on 10th August 2013 but made only five appearances across the season. Digby got more first-team appearances in the 2014/15 season but made only one appearance against Fleetwood Town in the 2015/16 season.
On 4th January 2016, Digby joined Championship team Ipswich Town on loan for the remainder of the 2015/16 season. Then-manager Mick McCarthy described Digby having “a bit of pedigree in terms of him coming through the England youth ranks and he’s come here and impressed”; a full-on praise from the manager helped Digby earn his first appearance at the FA Cup against Portsmouth five days after signing for the team.
Digby’s debut with the Tractors Boys was made on 27th February 2016 where his performance was instrumental to the team holding onto their 1-0 lead over Huddersfield Town, in which they ultimately won the match. His first start and full duration was the 0-0 stalemate against Middlesborough, and despite Middlesborough gaining promotion to the Premier League, Digby was capable of performing against top teams. He joined Ipswich Town permanently on a one-year deal on 28th June 2016.
Excited and delighted, Digby joined Mansfield Town on 16th May 2017 and made his debut during the 2-2 match against Crewe Alexander on 5th August 2017. He finished the 2017/18 season with 21 appearances for the Stags.
Digby’s performances was caught by Forest Green Rovers manager Mark Cooper, in which he stated that he had been “chasing Paul for the majority of the summer after being informed that he was available”. Digby joined the team on 31st July 2018 and was involved right from the start of the 2018/19 season. Digby made 17 consecutive starts after the 0-0 game with Stevenage and scored his first goal against Cambridge United which helped Forest Green Rovers win 3-1.
Digby was once again instrumental to Forest Green Rovers securing a play-off spot and appeared for 37 out of 46 league games.
On 21st July 2020, Digby signed to Cambridge United and left on 8th May 2025 upon the expiry of his contract. He made 229 appearances in his five-year stint. He joined Scottish Premiership side Dundee on a two-year deal on 12th June 2025, making 18 appearances in total.
On 7th July 2026, Digby returned to English football and signed with the U’s.
