Bio

Known for his physical presence and creativity on the offensive, Romeo Akachukwu stands out as an attacking midfielder for the U’s.

He is currently on loan from the Championship club Southampton.

His youth career began in Ireland, playing for Ferrybank before joining Waterford FC. His performances at Waterford was well-received and rose to prominence in 2023 after Romeo scored a hat-trick in the League of Ireland First Division play-off semi-final against Athlone Town.

His international career lifted up when he played for the Republic of Ireland national under-17 team at the 2023 European U17 Championships.

Romeo joined Southampton in 2024 and was included in the club’s matchday squad for the EFL Cup tie against Cardiff City on 28th August 2024. This marked his debut as a substitute in the second-half.

On 28th August 2025, Romeo made 21 appearances for the U19 side where he received his first call up to Ireland’s U21 squad.

Romeo signed with the U’s on 2nd February 2026 for the remainder of the season. Five days later, he made his debut for the club in a 2-0 home victory against Shrewsbury Town, replacing Arthur Read in the 74th minute.
