Bio

A product of the Colchester United Youth Academy, Samson Tovide made his first outing for the club as a seventeen-year-old in the 6-1 win over Southend United at the JobServe Community Stadium. The striker came mightily close to scoring on his debut, crashing an effort from distance against the bar that night.

However, the youngster would have to wait almost a full year before his next appearance, when he started to make an impact on the first team in the 2021/22 campaign. That season, Tovide made ten outings, including his first start for the club against Sutton United – a game where he would also be sent off.

It was the following season, during Matt Bloomfield’s brief tenure at the club that Tovide really started to show his ability, getting his first goal with a brilliant effort against Doncaster Rovers at the JCS, adding another to his tally later in the season against Crewe. In the 2022/23 campaign, Tovide made a career-best thirty-one appearances to help the team to EFL safety.

The next season, in 2023/24, Samson hit a career-best five goals in twenty-six appearances after penning a new two-year deal with Colchester. However, it was also a season marred by injury for the young forward, missing four months of the season between December and March. He returned to fitness to finish the season with Danny Cowley’s squad.

As of March 2026, Tovide has made regular appearances in the starting line-up, contributing significantly to the squad’s output. He has made 35 appearances, and scored 4 goals in competitions, including League Two and the EFL Trophy. He scored a goal in the 0-2 win over Shrewsbury, a goal in a 2-0 win during the EFL Trophy match over Fulham U21, and a goal in the first half against Newport County which concluded with an impressive 4-1 win.

“I can only control what I can control...if it was from the start, from the bench, I always give 100% to the team — I always support my teammates.”
