Club features in new Jamie & Jimmy series.

Colchester United’s players and staff will feature on Channel 4 in early 2014, having been part of filming this week for the return of Jamie & Jimmy’s Food Fight Club.

From their HQ – a café at the end of Southend pier – Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty will be celebrating, exploring and recreating more of Britain's diverse food heritage and cooking up incredible dishes to try at home.

Each week the Essex boys will be inviting a celebrity guest to earn their foodie stripes by working in the café’s kitchen, cooking and serving the dish of the day.

And the boys will be firing up the Capri again, hitting the road on a mission to bring some of Britain’s forgotten foods back to life - including the long forgotten Colchester Pudding. Plus there’s a weekly 'blow-out' recipe with real wow factor from Jamie and Jimmy gets his hands dirty on a DIY food builds.

Jimmy said: "We're trying to bring back foods that were once popular and have disappeared into obscurity thanks to competition from mass-produced foods. And what we're trying to do is re-discover and re-invent all these regional lovelies and bring back to life our country's forgotten culinary uniqueness. I love Colchester and recreating the Colchester Pudding only adds to it's wonderful pedigree."

The duo came to the Weston Homes Community Stadium to find out more about how the club work with local suppliers and to see how the U’s Head Chef Karl Smith might be able to slot the Colchester Pudding into the U’s matchday menus.

The Colchester Pudding was revealed to a VIP audience – featuring the U’s management and players – at the Town Hall on Wednesday and is set to feature at the Weston Homes Community Stadium very soon.

The tapioca and summer fruits dish went down a storm and is one of a number of recipes that Jamie and Jimmy are trying to revive and, following their appearance in Colchester, the duo were presented with U’s shirts to take with them on their travels.

Jamie added: "Colchester is a bubble of wonderful produce - great seafood, lovely local wine, Tiptree and jam making - it's an amazing part of the country. Colchester Pudding is a great pudding that's been lost, it's been forgotten and it should be on every gastro-pub menu in this city. The great thing about the recipe, apart from being delicious, is that it can be expressed in lots of different ways."

The U’s and the show based in Colchester is expected to be on air in early January.
