U's mascot to participate in EACH abseil.
Colchester United’s Eddie the Eagle is the latest participant to sign-up for the Colchester Abseil at the Town Hall on Sunday 11th August 2013 in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
EACH were chosen as one of Colchester United Football Club’s charity for the 2012/13 season and have been keen to support EACH in various ways.
Eddie is no stranger to charity fundraising and this abseil will be yet another feather in his cap, as EACH host the Colchester Abseil which will see participants descend 100ft down the Town Hall.
It’s one of Colchester’s tallest buildings offering participants a bird’s eye view of the High Street and the U’s fluffy favourite will get things off to a flying start.
The event is being managed by the abseil company, Creation Climbing Centre, and up to 60 places are available for the event.
Melissa Collett, EACH North Essex Fundraiser, said: "We’re delighted Eddie has signed up for the Abseil and is supporting the event.
"He is one of the most popular characters in town and to have the support of Eddie and Colchester United Football Club has been such a great help to everyone at EACH."
U’s Media Manager Matt Hudson, added: "Eddie has helped us raise thousands of pounds for worthy causes in recent years and he’s looking forward to helping EACH this time.
"As an eagle, he loves being up high and we’re sure he’ll lend a reassuring wing to those who look a bit nervous on the day."
The EACH Colchester Abseil takes place on Sunday 11th August at the Town Hall, High Street.
Participants must be aged 14 and over. Entry fees are £15 per person, with a minimum sponsorship figure of £85 per person aged 17 and over and £30 per person aged 16 and under.
Sponsorship raised from the event will provide care and support to life-threatened children and their families across Essex.
