Why I'm On Board

24 June 2013

Another fan tells us their story.

Season Ticket sales continue to be positive, with the total well ahead of where we were this time last year.

We have welcomed many fans on board for a Season Ticket in the past seven days, following the release of fixtures last week, and we've got another supporter telling us their story of why they're a Season .

In the meantime, to take a look at our Season Ticket brochure, click HERE.

And I can still re-call that visit to Wembley and the disappointment of losing to Carlisle in the Auto Windscreens Shield.

My earliest memories of watching the U's at Layer Road are from about 1992, in the days of Peter Cawley and the like but it wasn't until a few years later that I found myself attending more and more games because I had caught that Col U bug.
The old ground had such a special atmosphere and I can recall watching many a game from the Barside, not always with a great view but that was all part of the fun I guess. Those were the days of course when Joe Dunne and Mark Kinsella were in their playing days too.
Although I was a regular attendee, I didn't commit to a full Season Ticket until 2003 and I have
Indeed, I'm almost sure that as I get older my passion for supporting my home-town club grows ever stronger. By this time, I had moved to Terrace 3

renewed every season since. and can still recall how amusing it was that the lineman could of course hear everything being said by member of the crowd, encouraging every decision in our favour.
I glance on the web as I'm writing this, and it brings back some smiles of my favourite players over the years, Gavin Johnson, Wayne Andrews, Gareth Williams, Wayne Brown to name just a few.
Yes, it was said to leave Layer Road but the club simply has to move on to survive. I just think it is a shame that more Colchester-folk don't support the team so that the WHCS is more full on a regular basis but then I have a biased view!

I was delighted though when Joe Dunne was appointed manager and I did in fact

Last season was certainly up-and-down to say the least and I have to say that in the final few games I was very nervous as I'm sure we all were worrying whether we would maintain our League One status. e-mail Robbie recommending Joe for the top job a few weeks before he was given the job, so he must owe me one!
I was Gavin Massey's away shirt sponsor last term, so was fortunate enough to visit the new training facilities at Tiptree and meet the man himself, as well as having a chat with Mark Kinsella amongst others which was a great experience.

The atmosphere in S2 is great with all the singing in S1 and there is definitely a feel-good factor especially when the lads hit the back of the net of course.

I have decided to make a move with my Season Ticket for the new season, moving from W7 to S2. I did in fact change my ticket match by match to S2 last season and given that I only witnessed 3 defeats from this location, I decided that for the good of the team and our results I should alter my Season Ticket. The likes of Eastman and Massey will only get better and if we can get Sam (Walker) back on loan together with one or two other new faces I think we will have one of the strongest squads we have in quite some time.

However, as I like to say, don't shout it too loud and then hopefully we can just do just nicely and slip under the radar much as we did when getting promoted under Mr Parkinson.

He is clearly another crowd favourite and combined with the likes of Magnus, who is my favourite player, I'm confident that Joe will have a successful first full season in charge.

I was pleasantly surprised when we managed to land Craig on a permanent basis and very much the same joy when Jabo re-signed after winning all those POTY awards.

I feel excited by the direction the club is taking with the new youth set-up etc and I know we say it every year but we could well do something special this year you know.

So, the fixtures are out, I intend to be there at Gillingham, roll on August...
