Consistent U18s Win Again

26 March 2013

U's pick up victory against Brighton.

"I'd say that we were the better team and created more chances on a difficult surface. The boys carried on doing what we've been asking them to do and performing as they have all season.

And Academy Manager Tony Humes was pleased with the result, saying: "It was a good performance, one which was solid and strong from the boys.

The U's had triumphed in Wales against Cardiff in their last outing and continued their good form with a victory on the south coast this time out.

The U's U18s picked up yet another excellent win on Tuesday, as they ran out 2-1 winners against Brighton.

"Looking at it, we could have won by more, but there were more steps in the right direction with individuals doing well and understanding the roles they're being given by the coaches."

The match saw the U's twice take the lead and they could have perhaps scored more, hitting the bar twice in the second half.

And, although the team has scored many goals from open play this year, it was two set pieces that proved vital this time around.

"It's not something we've done a lot this year," Tony admitted.

"Both came from corners, with Michael O'Donoghue supplying the crosses on both occasions.

"Macauley Bonne has attacked the first about ten yards out and headed home past the keeper and, although we were pegged back, Nnamdi Nwachuku has been on hand to flick home a second to give us the lead for a second time."

The U's now face Swansea City at the weekend.
