Double Delight

11 September 2015

Sordell and Jones strengthen squad.

The U's might have been without a game for eleven days, but boss Tony Humes has been busy behind the scenes.

As well as putting the squad through their paces at Florence Park, he has added two players ahead of Saturday's game at Chesterfield.

Striker Marvin Sordell put pen to paper on a permanent deal on Thursday, before keeper Jamie Jones signed a loan deal that will keep him in north Essex until December.

Tony was understandably happy with the double addition, saying: "I'm delighted that both Marvin and Jamie have joined us this week."

"It has been no secret that we've been after a striker all summer and have got close on more than one occasion.

"We've had to remain patient and that patience has been rewarded with the capture of Marvin, who will certainly add quality to what is already an exciting offensive line-up here."

"At the other end of the pitch, the goalkeeping position was one we were always going to address once Sam Walker was out for the season.

"We bought Elliott Parish in during pre-season to push Sam for a first team place so needed another senior keeper to do the same with Elliott."

"As with the striker situation, we had to be patient until the right one came along and was willing to come here."

"Dillon Barnes is a fantastic prospect but is still very young and hasn't played a first team game yet. His time will undoubtedly come but it's great to have someone with Jamie's experience for the next three months."
