Rhys Signs For The U's

29 August 2016

Young goalkeeper pens development deal.

Colchester United have added to their U23s ranks with the addition of young goalkeeper Rhys Williams.

The Welsh youth international signs after impressing on trial in the last few weeks, and he has penned a one year development contract.

Starting out at Bolton, Rhys spent time with Bury from 13 to 17, before completing his scholarship with Carlisle United last season.

Rhys left Carlisle in the summer and has trained with the U's in the last few weeks before earning his deal.

"I contacted Colchester and came in for a trial, and have been offered a contract and I was really pleased to sign," he told the official website.

"It is important to get experience and games, with the U23s or out on loan.

"It's a good set up here and a good standard in the group. The coaches have been welcoming and there a lot of nice people here, so I can't complain at all.

"It's going to be hard moving away, but once you get used to it, it'll be fine. You have to move around in football to be successful, so I'm looking forward to it."
