U's Flash: Doug Signs

1 July 2016

Experienced midfielder joins U's.

Colchester United are delighted to welcome experienced midfielder Doug Loft as their latest summer signing.

29-year-old Doug was one of the U's key targets and has penned a two year contract, subject to EFL and FA ratification.

He joins the list of new faces arriving at the club ahead of the friendlies getting underway next week.

Doug arrives at Colchester with a wealth of experience at League One and League Two level.

Having started at Brighton & Hove Albion, he played 49 times for the Seagulls before moving to Port Vale in the summer of 2009.

In 2011/12, he was awarded Vale's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year award and, in the summer of 2012, Doug was handed the captain's armband at Vale Park.

He led Vale to promotion in 2012/13 as they finished in third place in League Two, with the all action midfielder scoring what have become trademark long range goals.

After 196 games for Port Vale, 2014 was to see Doug leave the club, as he moved to Gillingham, a switch that saw him return to the county of his birth.

He continued his energetic performances with the Gills, playing 72 games in his two seasons at the Priestfield Stadium.

Doug has scored 28 goals in 326 games and will be hoping to add to that tally this season.
