U's midfielder Alex Gilbey has signed for Wigan Athletic.
The twenty one year old turned down a new contract at Colchester United, opting to sign a three year deal with the Latics.
An undisclosed compensation fee was agreed by the two clubs and the popular young midfielder will now be hoping to impress at the newly promoted Championship side.
Since making his debut for the U's in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in October 2012, Gilbey made over 120 appearances and scored eight goals.
