A United United

John ready to take first team mantle.

The former Burnley and Ipswich man is keen that fans are a big part of it next season, saying: "

John assumed responsibilities for running the first team on Wednesday and is ready to get started on shaping the team ready for the 2016/17 campaign.

New U's First Team Coach John McGreal is looking for a united United next season as the team push to be at the right end of the League Two table. "To get the momentum for a successful team, you need to play a certain way to excite the fans and get them right behind you.

The fans are hugely important to me.

"First and foremost I want to win games of football.

"I think getting a couple of clean sheets early on will breed that belief and give us the confidence to go forward.

"We will of course touch on it with the lads and in training because it is certainly something that needs to be addressed, but I think it’s generally more about how we approach games and everything else will follow from there."

John will also be looking at the shape of his squad for 2016/17 in the coming weeks, with contract renewals to be addressed and new faces to be signed up.

And it's something he's eager to get his teeth into, with some early business.

He said: " "We’ll be looking at the players we have here that are in and out of contract and seeing where we think we need to strengthen for next season.

This is something I will be looking at in some detail over the next couple of weeks.

"I would like to do some business early and ensure we have the players we need to give it a real good go next season."

"We need some fresh faces in the squad and I am looking in all areas to bring in that experience we need to blend with the young players we have here at the club.
