Wynter Moves On

4 August 2017

Colchester United defender Alex Wynter has departed the club ahead of the new season.

The centre half has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent on Friday afternoon.

Alex has subsequently moved to National League side Maidstone United with their 2017/18 campaign getting underway with a home game against Maidenhead United this weekend.

23-year-old Alex originally arrived at the U's on loan from Crystal Palace in April 2014.

After a further loan spell at the start of the next season with Portsmouth, he returned to the U's on a permanent basis in the January 2015 transfer window.

Over the next two and a half years, he played a total of 54 times in league and cup competitions for the U's.

He will now begin the next stage of his career with the Kent side.

Director of Football Tony Humes said: "Alex is a player who needs regular first team football and he hadn't had that opportunity here.

"All parties felt it was right that he had a chance to find a new club and this is a good opportunity for him. We wish him well in the next stage of his career."

We would like to wish Alex well with his move to Maidstone and thank him for his efforts at the club, not least his wide ranging contribution to the U's Football in the Community programme.
