U's Beat The Hornets

17 January 2017

Comfortable win for the U23s.

Colchester United warmed up for their big Premier League Cup home match with Manchester City with an excellent Development league win over Watford.

This was the second time this season that they had scored four goals past the Hornets, having won the away match 4-3.

Keeper Charlie Bannister was forced into a good early save by Kane Vincent-Young and then there were a couple of half chances for Macauley Bonne before Dillon Barnes saved from Alex Jakubiak.

The breakthrough came just before half time as Macauley Bonne won out in a good tackle to find Charley Edge, who in turn slid the ball on for Tariq Issa to coolly put his shot into the net.

It was to be a good spell for Colchester as they effectively ended the match with three goals in a seven minute spell.

It was 2-0 when Kane Vincent-Young's cross from the right found Bonne who scored with a near post header.

Then, when a Briggs cross from the left was cleared to the edge of the box, Charley Edge drove his left foot shot in some style into the net.

Late on the U's got a fourth goal after some good build up play and when Vincent-Young got the ball into the box and it was helped on for Femi Akinwande to net.
