Rick Joins Kenya Trip

U's fan jets across world to be a part of community project

3 October 2017

Colchester United's Football in the Community programme is returning to Kenya in 2018 - and one U's fan is travelling from Dubai to join them!

Football coach Rick Goldsbrough, who enjoyed a short stint working with our community programme in the summer of 2016 (pictured above, left), is currently coaching in the Middle East.

But he will head to Africa to be reunited with the U's next Easter.

He said: "Having the opportunity to go to Kenya from Dubai, UAE and represent my home town club and the team I support is very special to me.

"I've lived away now for nearly 18 months and the chance to reconnect with the U's and be part of the great work the club does in the community is very much something I'd looking forward to being a part of!

"I've been coaching in football now for 10 years, from school and grassroots boys, girls, adults and disability players to elite academy players, both at home and abroad. Being able to share my passion with people who love it just as much as me, I believe is what football is all about.

"The opportunity to assist people who unfortunately are not as privileged as myself and support them with their everyday life, whilst representing Colchester United is a great honour and I encourage anyone who loves football and the U's to jump on board and share this great experience."

On last year's visit, the U's team volunteered at educational projects in Nakuru and made memories for a lifetime - and it's not too late for you to join this year's trip.

There are various volunteer roles on offer including multi-sports coaching, building and construction work and teaching, all of which are extremely rewarding and worthwhile, and you will also have time to experience the beauty and culture of Kenya, with an adventure weekend trip and various cultural activities throughout your stay.

Our partners at African Adventures are wholeheartedly committed to their partner projects and believe that volunteering is a two-way street, which greatly benefits not only the children in Africa but you too.

With carefully planned volunteering work, Colchester United Football In The Community has the opportunity to make a real and tangible difference to a local community in Africa, and we are confident that you will return from your volunteering experience a different person.

An African Adventures charity challenge presents a unique opportunity.

As well as helping to make a difference at their partner projects in Africa, you will be raising substantial funds for Colchester United Football In The Community’s incredible work in the Colchester and surrounding area.

Come together as a team, build lasting friendships and be part of a motivational and life-changing challenge in Africa.
