Junior Heads To Israel

Ogedi-Uzokwe starts new chapter

5 February 2020

Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe has signed for Hapoel Hadera

The U's striker has moved to the Israeli Premier League side on a permanent contract, and is expected to be involved in their match against Bnei Yehuda on Wednesday evening.

Sitting in mid-table, Hadera will be hoping that Junior can score the goals that will propel them higher up the table, much like he did at Derry City last year.

The twenty five year old spent the Irish season on loan at Derry, and helped them into the Europa League by finishing top scorer in the league on fourteen goals.

His time at the U's was less prolific, with him finding it hard to break into the team both in 2018/19 and during the past few weeks since his return from Ireland.

He made a total of twelve appearances for the club, scoring one goal that came on his full debut against Coventry City in a 2-1 win in February 2018.

Director of Football Tony Humes said: "We wish Junior well in Israel for this next chapter in his football career, and thank him for the wholehearted efforts he put in during his time with us."

"There was a lot of speculation in the past few days about Junior, but we never report on transfer deals until they actually happen.

"That can lead to deals breaking down, and that could have been especially the case in this one where international clearances were involved."
