In Opposition: Forest Green Rovers

Fourth place Forest Green are Tuesday's opponents

19 October 2020

Colchester United will return to the JobServe Community Stadium tomorrow night, welcoming Forest Green Rovers to North Essex in the league.

Manager - Mark Cooper

Top Scorer(s) - Jamille Matt (4)

Last Result - Forest Green Rovers 1-0 Stevenage 17/10/2020

Forest Green Rovers are one of two teams in Sky Bet League Two to remain unbeaten at the start at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

In their first six games, Mark Cooper's side have recorded three wins and three draws, results that have been good enough for fourth in the table - sitting just behind local rivals Cheltenham Town on separated by goal difference.

Winning their last two games after three straight draws has helped Cooper's side push towards the top of the table in the early part of the season, beating Stevenage at home last weekend, and Scunthorpe away in the previous game.

Ahead of their last game (a 1-0 win against Stevenage), Forest Green were thrown a curveball, when one of their players returned a positive Coronavirus test. But Mark Cooper was delighted with his side's performance as they picked up three points at home.

"I was delighted. After the last few days we have had, the players were magnificent. We had to change a bit for today, but the boys were magnificent." - Mark Cooper

This season, Forest Green Rovers will want to better than they did last season, after missing out on the play-offs with the season brought to an early halt.

Rovers were flying high in League Two last season, even topping the table on two separate occasions, before a string of poor results dropped them out of contention completely. Picking up just five points from their final nine games, Cooper's side fell from seventh to eleventh in a matter of weeks.

Often deploying a 3-5-2 formation, Forest Green will pose a threat to most sides in the league this season, with the experience of Jamille Matt up front. Alongside Matt, former Colchester United loanee Aaron Collins has been the other striker for Rovers this season.

The U's will want to put their latest result behind them, after a first defeat in the league this season on Saturday and get back to winning ways against Forest Green on Tuesday evening.
