U's boss looking forward to first home game of the season

13 August 2021

Colchester United boss is excited by the thought of playing in front of a home crowd for the first time this season, with Northampton Town visiting the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Following two games on the road, Colchester United return to the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the first of two home games with Northampton Town the visitors.

A draw on the road at Carlisle set the U's on their way in the season, before a defeat at the hands of Championship side Birmingham City on Tuesday evening dashed hopes of a Carabao Cup run this season.

But with Sky Bet League Two action returning to North Essex on Saturday afternoon, U's boss Hayden Mullins is looking forward to the test.

"It'll be a tough game, they've had a good start, with two positive results themselves. We are under no illusions how tough it will be and we've got to set up right and make sure we are in the right frame of mind for the game.

"We're all looking forward to it, it's a home game. It's a chance to get out in front of our fans, and we've really got to show them what we are looking to achieve this season.

"We need to make sure that at home we are as strong as we can be. Both of the upcoming home fixtures will be tough, we know that - they are two good sides.

"Last weekend was a positive point to pick up on the road, with a point and a clean sheet. Hopefully that sets our stall out for this season."
