Match Preview | Oldham Athletic

U's on the road at Boundary Park for next Sky Bet League Two game

19 August 2021

After scoring their first goal of the season on Tuesday night, courtesy of Freddie Sears' penalty, the U's will be in search of their first victory of the season against a winless Oldham Athletic side.

Hayden Mullins' side left it late on Tuesday evening against Mansfield Town, but picked up a point nonetheless along with scoring their first goal of the season.

Freddie Sears kept his nerve in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time to convert from the spot, after Frank Nouble had won a penalty for the U's.

The U's will have to contend with a couple of injury worries from the game heading into this weekend's fixture, with Tommy Smith not starting on Tuesday evening, as well as both Tom Eastman and Ryan Clampin picking up knocks during the match.

The Opposition - Oldham Athletic

Keith Curle's side are the only side in League Two who have not yet picked up a point. Losing each of their three opening games against Newport County, Bradford City and Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic currently sit bottom of the table.

After last season's brief brush with relegation, the Latics have had an overhaul of players, like many clubs in the fourth tier this season.

Nine players left Boundary Park in the summer, with eleven coming through the door to take their place. It could be an influencing factor to their poor start, with the team needing time to gel together, although Curle's side won't want to wait too much longer before picking up their first points of the season.

The danger man for Oldham is Dylan Bahamboula, the player who put in an eye catching performance when the Latics visited the JobServe Community Stadium last season. He spent the early part of the summer on trial at Championship side Middlesborough, before returning to Boundary Park to sign a one-year deal.

Last Time We Met

The U's were on the wrong end of a 5-2 defeat last time out at Boundary Park. Trailing 3-0 shortly after the break, two goals from Frank Nouble and Tom Eastman gave the U's hope that they might be able to snatch a point, before two further late goals from the home side put the tie to bed.
