Mullins looking for progression in Papa John's Trophy

30 November 2021

Colchester United boss Hayden Mullins is excited for the trip to Swindon Town in the Papa John's Trophy after two solid performances from his side in the league last week.

The U's picked up a win against Exeter City, followed up by a draw against Newport County, taking four points from a possible six against teams aiming for top seven spots this season.

And Colchester United boss, Hayden Mullins, is hoping his side can take this good form into the knockout stages of the Papa John's Trophy, starting this evening at Swindon Town.

The U's came runners up in Southern Group A, meaning they were drawn as the away side for the round of 32, and will be looking to overcome the Robins who sit fourth in Sky Bet League Two.

"It was a tough ask to get going on Friday night, but I was happy with the performance. And if you'd have said we would taken four points from six against Newport and Exeter, we would have taken them.

"Last week's games were a good building block for us, so that we can go into these two cup games with confidence. It's one defeat in six for us, and I think we are starting to build some momentum.

"These games are something to take our minds away from the league, and something for us to go and attack. We're in good form and we are going to go to Swindon with confidence and it's a game we really want to win.
