U's boss aiming to make it back-to-back wins

29 December 2022

Matt Bloomfield wants his side to take their positive result from Gillingham into their home game against AFC Wimbledon.

Colchester United picked up a first away league win of the season at Priestfield, and moved themselves out of the bottom two thanks to Junior Tchamadeu’s first-half strike.

And Matt Bloomfield has said he wants his side to take the confidence from that victory into the U’s first home game for over a month, when they line up against the Dons on Thursday evening.

“Before Boxing Day everyone was trying to build it up as a six-pointer. But for me it wasn’t, we’d had two good weeks on the training pitch – we’d put in a lot of work into playing three at the back. We feel like it was the right time to switch formation, and we were really pleased to get three points.

“But my message from then is to thank the supporters. I’ve repeated the message a few times, and they’ve been great for us. It was incredible support with the noise that they made, and it was nice to have a moment with them at the end, so thank you to them.

“To a man, it was a proper team performance and that is the thing I am probably most proud about.”
