Skipper excited for run of home games

11 February 2022

Colchester United Captain Tommy Smith is looking forward to being at home over the next few weeks with five of the next six games at the JobServe Community Stadium.

The U's fell to a first defeat in five games at Mansfield Town on Tuesday evening, but Smith says the group of players are not deterred and will be well-prepared for Saturday's home game.

Carlisle United will provide a different challenge for the U's, but Tommy insists the lads will prepare the same as they do for every other league game.

"We need to take positives from it, we didn't start the game particularly well on Tuesday, and we weren't up to the standards we have set ourselves in the previous four games.

"There is real competition for places with the aquisitions we made in January, and the gaffer has instilled that into us. Every time we are out on the training pitch, we are playing for the shirt, and that can only be good for the benefit of the group.

"This weekend is a game we really want to get three points from. We need to stamp out authority on the game from the first whistle and we have a plan in place to do that."
