Match Preview | Matt Bloomfield

New Head Coach optimistic about Charlton fixture

4 October 2022

Matt Bloomfield will be in the technical area for the first time at the JobServe Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

He will be overseeing his first home game since becoming Colchester United’s newest First Team Head Coach on Friday afternoon, after travelling with the team to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The U’s were narrowly beaten by the Dons, but there was plenty of encouraging play from Bloomfield’s side as he looks to get his first win as Head Coach against Charlton Athletic this evening.

“I won’t be down about Saturday’s game. I hate losing football matches, I want to win every one, of course I do.

“We played on the front foot, showed the energy and enthusiasm that I’d asked for and I was so proud of them for their performance in the first half. Kwesi Appiah was absolutely fantastic for us at the top of the pitch, we had a good line at the back, we were comfortable.

“But there’s always something to learn, and there’s lost to learn about this group of footballers. There’s lots to learn about these people, players and personalities; I’ve learned quite a bit over the weekend, and will continue for a little while yet.

“I’m not going to be down, I will be positive with the boys. We move forward.”
