U’s midfielder speaks ahead of Stevenage.

6 April 2023

Colchester United midfielder, Ossama Ashley has spoken ahead of our important game against Stevenage on Good Friday.

The U’s travel to Stevenage tomorrow in the hopes to pick up what would be a very important three points before they come back to the JobServe Community Stadium to face Crewe on Monday, but first the first call of business is to make Good Friday a good Friday.

Ashley has spoken about how important it is for the lads to have calm heads going into the final games of the season, he’s also stressed that the performances are there but scoring is holding us back.

“It’s going to be tough for everyone out there, both sets of teams so I don’t think we have any excuses, so we’ll go out there both times and do the best we can.

“We’re incredibly frustrated of course, over the last six games we’ve gone toe to toe with every single team. The thing that’s holding us back is just getting that goal, I feel like if we can get the goal we’d be able to see out the rest of the game, we’ve been hard to beat, we haven’t been any sort of pushover. For example, Leyton Orient, best team in the league and we took the game toe to toe with them and even at times outplayed them so I feel like we’ve got nothing to really worry about. Of course, we’re in a situation that we don’t want to be in, but we back our ability.

“That’s the most important thing [results] and that’s what’s incredibly frustrating for us and for everyone watching, the fans, but at the same time you’ve got to keep a cool and steady head, there’s still a few games left of the season, so we’ve got to just look at it at a game at a time, give our best and hopefully it pays off for us.”
