Midfielder speaks about preparation ahead of Wimbledon clash

28 December 2023

Arthur Read has given his thoughts ahead of the U’s clash against AFC Wimbledon on Friday night at Plough Lane.

“It's been a busy Christmas period and we've got a lot more games to come”, the U’s number 16 said.

“So it’s just about balancing things, training and managing the body and making sure we're ready for games.

“I think because they [games] come around so quickly, I don't think you really get a chance to look that far ahead. So it's just about taking it one game at a time and trying to pick off results and points.”

Colchester will be playing another play-off chasing opponent, something that’s become somewhat of a constant during this festive period.

Highlighting that fact, Arthur said: “A lot of teams in and around the play-off places, so tough games as are all the games in League Two, but we’ve got to go into it as positively as possible.”

The U’s will be looking to bounce back against AFC Wimbledon, having succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat to MK Dons three days prior.

Looking back at the Boxing Day clash, Arthur said: “We tried to try to keep it as strong as possible at the back, but it was a tough game against a very good side. They kept the ball well but for long periods of the game we stopped them and we had chances on the break but again mistakes during set pieces cost us the game.”

Lastly, the twenty-four-year-old acknowledged his impressive individual performances but added that it’s the team result that matters at the end.

Arthur explained: “I think I've been really happy with how I've played personally in terms of goals and assists; it’s been my best personal season and I think my actual individual performances, I’ve been really happy with them. But again, it's all about the team and we need to pick up more results.”
