Colchester United defender Ellis Iandolo made a welcome return to action in North Wales last weekend, playing the last half an hour against Wrexham.
Ellis has had a frustrating start to his career in North Essex, picking up an ankle injury in the first league game of the season that saw him sit out four months after requiring surgery.
But it was clear to see the desire and impact that the summer arrival had last weekend, contributing to the goal by delivering the cross that Jayden Fevrier eventually knocked in.
Now Iandolo is targeting more minutes and points over the Christmas period, starting with this evening’s game at home to Salford City.
“It’s been a tough four months for me since I got injured at Bradford, so I’m pleased to just get back out there. Hopefully I can provide something for the team and we can get off to a good start to the Christmas period with a win.
“I’m at a point now where I feel good and fit to play – there was a time where I thought I was going to be back out on the pitch and then I had a bit of a setback. They’re the things you have to deal with mentally as an injured player; trying to stay focused and do everything you can to make sure that when you do come back, you know you’re fit and as good as you can be for the team.
“This is the best point in the season to turn things around, and to really rack up the points. If you can go and put three or four wins together, it all looks different going into January – it’s a really good chance for us to go out and put some points on the table.”
