Young U's Beat Bristol City

U21s win 2 against top of the table Robins

22 February 2023

Colchester United's U21s have beaten Championship side Bristol City.

Dave Huzzey's side won 2-1 in the West Country on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to second half goals from Donell Thomas and  Brad Ihionvien.

City had taken the lead at Robins High Performance Centre training ground but the U's responded well and brought all three points back to north Essex.

The hosts started on the front foot, and had a couple of early opportunities that they couldn't convert.

It was third time lucky in the tenth minute though, as Owers opened teh scoring with a goal all of his own work.

The young U's didn't crumble agaisnt the league leaders though, and Al-Amin Kazeem was key to some good attacking work as the U's came back into the game.

Looking for a decent performance to push his way back into the first team picture, Kazeem then hit the post, but the effort would have been disallowed as the flag went up for offside.

The score remained 1-0 as the teams went in for half-time, but it only took the U's three minutes to get the equaliser they would have talked about during the break.

It was some goal as well, with Thomas connected spectacularly with a volley outside the area from a corner from the U's right.

A second goal for the U's came just before the hour mark. Morrsion and Thorn were involved in the build-up, and the latter crossed for Ihionvien to score from close range.

A couple of chances for each side came and went in the closing stages of teh game, but the U's ran out 2-1 winners and took the three points.
