Colchester United are set to take on Maldon & Tiptree in the first game of pre-season on Saturday.
The U’s are fresh off the plane following a training camp in Spain and will be hoping to hit the ground running following a successful few days training in Marbella. The first challenge for Ben Garner’s squad is a trip to Maldon to take on the Jammers.
Maldon and Tiptree play in the Isthmian North Division, last season they finished fifteenth following an incredibly difficult start to the season.
In December, The Jammers brought in Peter Taylor, a manager with a huge amount of experience in club and international football.
Taylor has been in charge of England U20s, England U21s and the senior England squad along with a huge number of clubs at the highest level, Taylor has won three Manager of the Month awards in his career, one in League Two, one in League One and one in the Premier League when he was in charge of Leicester City.
The last time the U’s played the Jammers, it ended 2-0 to Colchester United, the game took place on the 8th of July 2017, six years to the day of Saturday’s game.
The U’s first team and Maldon and Tiptree have only played each other twice, the U’s winning both matches. The first time the two sides met was in the pre-season of 2016 and it ended 3-0 to the U’s.
Colchester United’s pre-season will see the U’s play six games in the lead up to the 2023/24 campaign with the last game being at home to Leyton Orient a week before the first league game.
The U’s take on Swindon in that first game of the season and Ben Garner’s squad will hope to get off to the perfect start against his old club.
