U's boss taking the positives into this weekend's clash

5 October 2023

Colchester United boss Ben Garner insists the spirits are high amongst camp at the club despite after an up and down week for his team.

The U’s would have been full of confidence of the back of Saturday’s 5-4 win over Notts County on Saturday afternoon. But the squad were brought down to earth with a bump on Tuesday evening after falling to a narrow defeat in South Wales.

But despite the disappointing result at Rodney Parade, Ben Garner has said his side have the confidence to continue their good home form when Morecambe make the trip to North Essex this weekend.

“I was in with a smaller training group on Wednesday – they were fantastic and that lifted my spirits if I’m honest. I said everything I needed to after the game on Tuesday. The players know I was disappointed with the overall level of performance, and frustrated that we’re not picking up points when we should be from these types of games.

“I expect them to respond in a positive manner, and we want to continue the really good home form that we’ve had recently.

“Prior to Tuesday we had four really strong performances; Tranmere, Mansfield, Crewe and Notts County – four really good performances that, for me, warranted taking twelve points from those games. We saw a bit of a drop off on Tuesday and we need to make sure that’s the exception.

“We need to finish this week strong with a good performance against a good side, and look to get three points that will make it a more positive week.”
