Skipper urges the squad to be together and pull in the right direction

Connor Hall says that the U’s must take their chances and put in better defensive performances in order to get results to go their way.

Speaking specifically about the defeat to Harrogate last weekend, Colchester’s number five said: “It was a tough one. I don’t know where their two goals came from to be honest.

“We didn’t look like we were going to concede until we went 1-0 up. We’ve got to manage the game better, we’ve said it all season. There is only so many times you can say after you go 1-0 up to keep switched on for the next five minutes, don’t let them get a sniff, if the ball needs to go in behind, put it in behind.”

Hall added: “In the space of that five minutes they scored two goals, which absolutely killed us. We’ve had chances still, but they defended well and that was the difference.

“They chucked their bodies in the way of the ball, they got some blocks in and we haven’t done that in our box.”

The skipper also said that the U’s must work “harder” than the other team to win games.

“We’ve just got to work as hard as we can, doing the ugly stuff and the rest takes care of itself,” Hall said.

“But first and foremost, you got to work a lot harder than the other team, win your personal battles, got to win first balls, second balls, defend for your lives and when you get a chance at the top end you’ve got to take your chance,” he added.
