Colchester United defender Tom Dallison says he was happy to make his return to action, despite the result against Forest Green on Saturday.
Dallison had sat out the last couple of months after being sidelined with injury, but came on for the second forty-five minutes in the loss at the Bolt New Lawn on Saturday afternoon.
He says he felt conflicted on the game because of the result, but is now looking forward to getting as many minutes as he possibly can, potentially starting in this evening’s EFL Trophy fixture against Cambridge United.
“Obviously there was some mixed emotions coming after the weekend – it was great to be back training with the boys, and being in and amongst the lads on a matchday. But as I said there was mixed emotions on Saturday, we weren’t good enough – both from a personal point of view and a team point of view.
“We know that, but it’s time to get back on the pitch this week, work hard and stick together, and do the things we know need to be done.
“It’s a good thing when the games are coming thick and fast now. The depth in the squad is what you count on and training doesn’t change – the lads have been brilliant over the last couple of weeks. It is just a case of sticking together, and we’ve shown what we can do in the past performances against Gillingham and Notts County.
“Even over the course of pre-season, we’ve shown what we can do. It’s just being more consistent with it, and having those good days more often. It’s as simple as that. We’ll probably simplify things now going forward, get back to basics and do those things really well.”
