Tom Smith says he is looking forward to getting his chance between the sticks, should he be given the opportunity to play against Forest Green Rovers this weekend.
U’s boss Ben Garner will have a selection choice on his hands after Owen Goodman was called up to the England U20s squad for this set of international fixtures.
And after sitting on the bench for the last few games, summer signing Tom Smith says he is hoping to be given his chance when the U’s kick off on Saturday afternoon.
“There’s been a bit of an understanding in the goalkeeper department about what’s going to happen in the next week or two. It’s good for me, and allows me to prepare properly with the team and individually and I’m looking forward to it.
“I’m hoping to put in the best performance possible and help the team win, hopefully to get a clean sheet because that’s always nice and then we’ll see what happens from there.
“The one thing I know from last season is the Gaffer’s not afraid to make a change if he thinks it’s right for the team. And on the other hand, if it’s not right for the team then I think Owen, Sam and I make a really good team with whoever is involved. We’re all there for each other.
“You never know when someone might get injured, or get a call up, so you need to be ready yourself, or ready to support the other person that goes in goal.”
