U's boss aiming for second home win against Stags

14 September 2023

Colchester United Head Coach has challenged his players to build on their positive performance against Tranmere from last weekend, when Mansfield visit North Essex on Saturday afternoon.

The U’s boss oversaw the 2-0 win against Tranmere, and the first home win for Colchester this season, last weekend, and now wants more from his players as they go up against one of only two unbeaten sides in League Two.

But Garner says it’s an opportunity for his side to be the first team to beat them in any league and cup match this season: “We see the quality within the group, and I think we’ve only just scratched the surface really – and we know there’s a lot more to come.

“Wins breed confidence and the levels of performance against Gillingham and against Tranmere shows what we are capable of as a young group, but with good senior players in there as well. I think we’ve got a nice balance now.

“We can go and attack anyone, take the game to anyone, home and away. And Saturday is a great opportunity to do that against a team that have had a fantastic start, so let’s go toe-to-toe with them and see what we can do.”
