Colchester United boss Ben Garner says his side will need to be ‘focused and switched-on’ when the league leaders visit North Essex on Saturday afternoon.
The U’s Head Coach also emphasised that his side have plenty of positives to take from the last couple of games, despite picking up one point from a possible six.
A defeat against Crewe followed the 1-1 home draw with Mansfield for Colchester, but the results haven’t dampened the mood over at Florence Park in the build-up to this weekend’s fixture.
“The players are chomping at the bit, they’re looking forward to getting going on Saturday. It should be an exciting game and one that we can’t wait for.
“We’re creating lots of opportunities, we had over sixty shots in the last three games. If we’re averaging twenty shots on goal a game, then that’s fantastic. Coming in last season, the average was just over seven shots per game, so it’s a huge improvement in that.
“But we need the results to follow. There’s no point improving this and that and making progress in all these areas – the last little piece, the five or ten percent is winning games and making sure that we’re doing that with the performances that we’re getting.
“Across a season, if we keep performing as we are, wins are going to come aplenty, so we have to make sure we maintain those performance levels and keep building, but we need to have that winning mentality in every minute of every game.”
