Ben Garner has given his thoughts ahead of Colchester United’s clash with Tranmere Rovers at the JobServe Community Stadium.
The U’s will be looking to bounce back from their narrow 0-1 defeat against Walsall last weekend, having finalised their transfer business. Ben Garner will have a couple of new players available to him that could feature this weekend. They include Jay Mingi and Cameron McGeehan.
Speaking about the new additions, the gaffer said that having a week to prepare for Tranmere allowed them to integrate with the team.
Ben said: “It [was] really important to, first of all, gel the new players, get them integrated into the group but also [to have the] time on the training ground to make sure that we perform at the levels that we are capable of and set standards of what we want because those standards weren’t there on Saturday and we need to make sure they are this week against Tranmere.”
The gaffer added: “If we hit our levels and get our performance right then we’ll give ourselves a fantastic chance of winning the game, but if we don’t have the right application, intensity, which was the case on Saturday, then every team in League Two can beat you, if you’re not at it on your day.
“That’s our focus this week, making sure that we put a performance in that firstly we want to see and secondly that the supporters can get right behind.”
