U21 Match Preview | Wigan Athletic (A)

Youngsters looking to bounce back in North West England

11 September 2023

Colchester United U21 will be looking to bounce back against Wigan Athletic U21 on Tuesday afternoon (2:00pm KO) after suffering two consecutive defeats against Crewe U21 and Burnley U21.

The youngsters currently sit fifth in the Professional Development Leage after collecting six points from four games. Last time out, the U’s were well beaten by Burnley U21s at the JobServe Community Stadium, despite taking an early lead through Kaan Bennett.

However, three second-half goals from Burnley settled the score that in the end stood at 4-1 to the visitors.

The U’s will now look to put things right when they face the Latics at Christopher Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Before their two defeats to Crewe and Burnley, the U’s made a strong start to the campaign winning their first two matches against Barnsley U21 (3-2) and Peterborough U21 (3-0).

Wigan, on the other hand, have struggled so far in this campaign, only picking up one point from three matches. Last time out, the Latics succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Bristol City in the West Country.

The only point Wigan have managed to pick up so far came after a 2-2 draw against Charlton U21 towards the end of August.
