Colchester United forward Conor Wilkinson says the squad is in a good place ahead of this weekend’s trip to South London to take on Sutton United.

Wilkinson was the first man through the door in the January transfer window, penning a one-and-a-half year deal from Motherwell, but has been limited to substitute appearances in his first month in North Essex.

However, putting his personal frustrations aside, he says the squad has been mentally strong and they are in a good place for this weekend’s game.

“I think everyone’s in a good state of mind. No one is going to say it’s not a big game, I think we need to go there with the right mind set and look to come away with the three points. It is a big game and we’re raring to go for it.

“The story for both teams is probably quite fair – where they are in the league doesn’t replicate the players they have in their team. Sutton have good players and we can’t underestimate that. I think that’s the story with us as well – our changing room should never replicate where we are in the league.

“If you look at our last couple of games, we have been dominant for lesser times than we should have been. We went to Harrogate and performed really well in the first half, we’ve just got to learn as a team and manage it as a team to be dominant for longer periods of time and put our chances away when we do get them.”
