Midfielder back in contention

16 February 2024

Jay Mingi has spoken ahead of the U’s clash against Accrington Stanley taking place at the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon (KO 3pm).

The midfielder has endured a tough couple of months being side-lined with an injury, but he is now ready to make an impact for the First Team again.

The twenty-three-year-old featured in Colchester’s narrow loss to Harrogate last week, coming off the bench with seventeen minutes to go.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match, Jay said: “First of all, it's a blessing to be back, obviously thank God always and now it’s just about trying to get my head down and help the team as much as possible.

“Regarding the game, I think every game in this league is a tough game and there's no easy games to expect and we're ready for it, so we'll go and attack it the best we can.”

The midfielder added that every footballer wants games coming thick and fast following a defeat, so it was disappointing that Tuesday’s match against Grimsby Town was called off.

He said: “It was a bit unfortunate because we really wanted to bounce back quickly after last Saturday’s defeat, but obviously it has given us more time on the grass to perfect other areas going into this Saturday. So, it was a blessing and a curse at the same time.”
