Benjamin Speedie is the referee for this weekend’s clash at Sutton United.
The 2023/24 season is Speedie’s fourth as an EFL official, with Saturday’s game in South London his twenty-sixth of the campaign in all competitions; he has been involved with League One, League Two, Carabao Cup and FA Cup matches.
In his twenty-five games so far, he has handed our sixty-eight yellows and three reds, with his last match (Crawley’s 2-0 win over Forest Green) seeing just one caution.
His last game involving the U’s was the final game of the 2022/23 season, where Colchester were beaten 2-0 by Mansfield at the JobServe Community Stadium; the U’s have never won when Speedie has been in charge (three draws, two losses).
Speedie will be assisted by Conall Bartlett, Gareth Viccars and Dean Treleaven.
